Technically and visually excellent Avestin EmulsiFlex-C5 homogenizer
completely ready for connection with compressed air control.
Homogenizer: 30,000 PSI/207 MPa max
Filter: 5,000 PSI/35 MPa max
Description:
1. The Pump
The EmulsiFlex-C5 homogenizer features a compressed air/compressed gas-driven high-pressure pump developed and manufactured by AVESTIN®. It contains no sealing rings in contact with the product. The only plastic seal is the piston seal made of UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene). A specially designed pump motor control valve enables particularly quiet operation.
2. The Homogenization Valve
The EmulsiFlex-C5 standard unit is supplied with a pneumatically controlled, dynamic homogenization valve. It does not contain any rubber sealing rings. The only plastic seal is a Teflon ring for sealing the homogenization valve system. All other seals are precision-machined metal-to-metal or metal-to-ceramic seals.
3. Capacity/Pressure
For all compressed air-operated pumps, the sample throughput depends on the set operating pressure. The EmulsiFlex-C5 device achieves a throughput of 1-5 L/h. The smallest possible sample volume is 7 mL. The loss of substance during processing is less than 1 mL. The homogenization pressure is freely adjustable between 30 and 2000 bar.
4. Temperature Control
The inlet and outlet temperatures can be regulated by installing a suitable heat exchanger. Furthermore, the entire device can be immersed in a water bath to maintain the temperature of the sample material.
5. Cleaning and Sterilization
Hot water, ethanol, acetone, and various other cleaning agents can be pumped through the device for cleaning purposes. Remaining liquid residues can be removed by flushing with compressed air/gas. The entire device, including the homogenization valve, can be completely disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. All parts in contact with the product are autoclavable and validated according to FDA guidelines. The pump inlet fittings can be easily connected to a steam source for sterilization at 120-130°C (steam-in-place).
6. Commissioning Requirements
For laboratory-scale applications, a nitrogen pressure vessel or a small compressor is sufficient. The required gas pressure depends on the specific application. Compressed air of 6-8 bar is sufficient for the production of most dispersions, emulsions, liposome dispersions, and for E. coli digestion processes.
