The Avanti J-20XP centrifuge is a floor-mounted, refrigerated Expanded Performance centrifuge that generates the centrifugal forces required for a wide range of applications. In combination with one of Beckman Coulter's numerous J Series high-speed rotors, it is suitable for the following applications, among others:
• Routine tasks such as sample preparation, pelleting,
extractions, purifications, concentrations, phase separations,
as well as column and filter centrifugations
• Rapid sedimentation of protein precipitates, large particles
and cell debris
• Preparation of subcellular particles such as mitochondria,
nuclei, and unpurified microsomes
• Separation of blood cells and cellular components
• Gradient separation, e.g., Ficoll-Hypaque1 and Percoll1
The centrifuge is microprocessor-controlled and enables interactive operation.2 Design features include a brushless, switchable reluctance drive motor,3 an automatic rotor identification system, the FRS (Friction Reduction) system, and the temperature control system with automatic temperature control. Temperature compensation for all compatible rotors.
The control panel consists of a digital display that can be toggled between current centrifuge values or user-entered settings, rotary knobs for parameter entry, and additional buttons for instrument control. Diagnostic messages on the control panel illuminate to alert the user to problems that occur during operation.
